Kit McFarlane, LCSW-C

Ms. McFarlane, MSW, M.Ed., LCSW-C received her Bachelor degrees in Psychology and Literature from Ithaca College in NY, her Masters of Education from American University in Washington, D.C. and her Masters degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Maryland in 2000. She received her Licensed Certified Social Worker – Clinical in 2016.

For the last 18 years, Ms. McFarlane has worked with families and individuals who are impacted by Huntington’s Disease, a devastating neuropsychiatric disease where much of the work required has been helping families and sufferers to adjust to an unfair, arbitrary blow in life, to negotiate the many end-of-life issues; to live a full and meaningful life despite the vagaries of fate.

Between 1974 and 1996, Ms. McFarlane worked as a special education teacher for emotionally disturbed children and adolescents in Virginia, Maryland, California and on an American Air Force base in Misawa, Japan.

Through both experience and education, Ms. McFarlane specializes in working with depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and much of what life throws at you. She works through a variety of theoretical approaches including psychodynamics -- the basis of all therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) including Mindfulness approaches, ideas of Carl Rogers and more  – a true eclectic approach.

Ms. McFarlane works with individuals of all ages from childhood to seniors, couples, families, groups and a variety of other populations including those in the LGBT community.

As an LCSW-C, Ms. McFarlane currently accepts CareFirst BCBC, JHHC, Aetna and Cigna.

Ms. McFarlane lives in Ellicott City, MD with her husband and her forever-a-puppy, Minerva, while her daughter works in the Army in Afghanistan; her older stepson, his wife (and daughter) work as a Navy Seal and State Dept. official respectively in Malaysia; and her younger stepson (wife and three children) works as an Engineer/Artist for medical equipment in Buffalo, NY.
